Blue

While in the living room chatting with my husband, I hear the back door fly open and then slam shut with my six year old son yelling, “Dad, there’s another ghost back there!”

Of course, we asked him to tell us all about it. Here’s his account of the events in the back yard:

While playing in the back yard, out of the side of eye he noticed the swing moving and something blue next to it. He originally thought it was just the swing, because the swing set is dark blue, but when he looked, he said there was a lady in a blue dress…wait a minute, he paused, she was all blue, he told us. But when he looked at her, she went “swoosh” (hand gesture included) and she was just gone.

What’s so odd about this is that a few weeks ago, he claimed to see a “ghost dog” back there that was also blue. Another ghost that just went “swoosh” and was gone before he got a long hard look.

He didn’t want to go back outside that evening. I asked him why, and he said he was scared. I reminded him that nothing bad happened and asked why he was scared. He said, “because ghosts do things that scare me.”

“Like what?”, I asked.

His reply, with an annoyed look on his face and matching tone to his voice, was, “Like tap me on the shoulder or make loud noises or talk too loud at night or do things just to keep me awake.”

We told him that we thought it was pretty cool that when he sees ghosts, they are blue. Easy to tell the difference that way, right?

It’s not always that easy for me.
