Why do ghosts try to scare us?

I hear stories from people all the time that are scared and confused as to why ghosts are trying to scare them. The thing is, most of the time they aren’t trying to scare you, just gain your attention. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are the more nasty ones that are indeed, intending to scare you for their own amusement. And I still look at these with the same level of compassion.

Why compassion?

Imagine one day no one could hear or see you anymore. You’re still you (without the body), and still aware of everything around you, but no matter how hard you scream or jump up and down waving your arms, no one will respond. The only way to get a response is to hurl a dish across the room.

I imagine this is an extremely lonely and frustrating existence. I would probably do anything I could to gain attention as well. Wouldn’t you? When I think about it from this point of view, I suddenly want to do all I can to ease this suffering. The fear is replaced with compassion, no matter how annoyed or frightened I initially was. I acknowledge them, and open myself up to communicate so they know they are heard. Most of the time, this is enough to stop the obnoxious behaviors. But this doesn’t solve the dilemma for those who are stuck or lost. Some of these troubled souls are just looking for help to find a way to move on. In this case, I take it a step further and help them find their way.

Anyone can do this. If you’d like more information on how to help them, I recommend either (or both) of these books:

Both of these books give clear and easy to understand instructions for those wishing to help ghosts move on.
